Rent & Utility Assistance

The Housing Authority of the County of Kern is now accepting applications for the Rent and Utility Assistance Program. If you are a renter and were impacted financially by COVID-19 you may be eligible to receive short-term assistance for rent and/or utility costs.

Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Waiting List to Open

The Housing Authority of the County of Kern will open the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) waiting list on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. PST and will close Monday, February 28, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. PST.

Applications must be completed online. Those that are eligible are encouraged to register and create an account online. Find out if you may be eligible for a voucher.

Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting

The Housing Authority of the County of Kern celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Residences at East Hills on December 9th. “Residences at East Hills is a first-class development and an investment in Bakersfield. We are excited to provide new affordable homes for veterans and other low-income households as we know affordable housing helps families thrive and has positive long-lasting impacts on our community” stated Stephen Pelz, Executive Director of the Housing Authority. Over 2,000 applications have already been received but there are a few units still available for veterans.

Rosaleda Village

Applications for Rosaleda Village in Wasco, Ca are now available! Affordable housing for farmworker households. All homes have a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, laminate wood flooring, granite countertops, & washer & dryer hook-ups. Get an application now by calling (661) 493-2367.

 

Westchester Senior Village

The Housing Authority is now accepting applications online for the Westchester Senior Village located in downtown Bakersfield. The Westchester Senior Village will serve seniors 62 years and over and consists of 21 micro units with microwave, refrigerator, and utilities are included.  Other onsite amenities include laundry room and community kitchen. There is no onsite parking available. Rents range from $400 to $575 per month.

The Housing and Opportunity Foundation of Kern is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose purpose is to raise funds from the general public to support programs and activities that benefit residents of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern, as well as other low-income residents in Kern County.
